MGL XTreme EMS Generation 2 is a very comprehensive engine display and monitor.

This low cost unit is based on a 4.2" sunlight readable, wide viewing angle, high resolution LCD display with integrated SD card reader, function buttons, and a rotary control.

It is able to connect to existing engine sensors (or add additional sensors) via a range of MGL RDAC modules, just pick the one that is suitable for your engine monitoring needs. The RDAC is mounted in the engine bay which makes it easy to connect all the sensors.  Data is then conducted by a single twisted wire pair through the firewall to the XTreme EMS.

The XTreme is designed to fit a standard 3.1/8" / 80mm round instrument hole. The body is located off-centre allowing the unit to replace instruments on the right side of a standard 6-pack configuration or any other location that currently occupies two instruments.

Due to the light weight and very low mounting depth, no complicated mounting brackets or trays are needed. Power use is low and it will operate from 8 V to around 30V.

We ship worldwide. At checkout you can choose from low cost airmail options and express courier services like DHL or FedEx.

Within the UK we normally dispatch using Royal Mail or DHL. You choose the level of service at checkout.

VAT sales tax (20%) is included in the price displayed on the website. This tax applies to UK customers and EU customers. It will continue to apply to customers in the 27 EU member states from 1 January 2021. This is because we are located in Northern Ireland. The Northern Ireland Protocol, agreed by the EU to facilitate cross border trade with the Irish Republic after Brexit, also applies to the rest of the EU.  We continue to charge the UK rate of vat to customers in the 27 EU member states and there is no further tax to pay upon delivery. We can continue to zero rate the vat for EU business customers who enter their vat number at checkout.

Customers outside the EU do not pay vat and the tax will be removed at checkout. Local import taxes may apply - check with your local authority.

Currency. All products are priced in Pound Sterling (GBP, £). Using the "Currency" tab you can change the displayed currency to either Euro (EUR, €) or US Dollar (USD, $). This is an indicative exchange rate, automatically updated daily and is based upon the prevailing bank rate. The price you see may be displayed in USD or EUR but payment processing will be conducted in GBP. This means that your card issuer will apply their usual exchange rate, which is likely to be different from our indicative rate.

What do you get for my money ?

You get the XTreme instrument, wiring harness, OAT probe, and 2Gb SD card.

You will need to choose a suitable RDAC engine module and mount it in the engine bay, usually on the firewall for easy access. You will probably want to monitor CHTs, EGTs, oil T&P, RPM, Fuel Flow, Fuel Level, and possibly even Coolant Temp and manifold pressure. You can monitor and display up to 6 cylinders. There are a selection of RDAC engine modules available. The RDAC-XG for most 4 cylinder engines including the Rotax 91X series. The RDAC-XF adds more inputs and can cater for a 6 cylinder engine and if you want manifold pressure, the RDAC-XF-MAP adds that function to the basic RDAC-XF. We also have specific RDAC modules for the Rotax iS injected engine and the UL Power range of engines, these connect to the engine ECU  by CAN bus.

Whichever RDAC you choose, it simply connects to the EFIS via a single twin cable (CAN bus), so no bulky wiring harness to accommodate through the firewall, and hooking it up to the engine is easy because you are able to mount it in a convenient position. The RDAC and XTreme will interface to virtually all senders fitted to any engine, and we can supply the additional senders you may want.

The SD card is used to record "black box" information and a flight log. The data can be downloaded later from the card and displayed on a PC. The SD card is also used for firmware updates, which are free.

The XTreme EMS will continually monitor engine parameters and provide clear warnings should anything stray from the user's pre-set levels. The LAA's John Brownlow, writing about the XTreme after evaluating the Gropo Trail, in the official flight test report, wrote the following:

"MGL Avionics EFIS Display

The MGL Avionics EFIS displayed a very clear visual warning in red, in the screen centre as low indicated airspeeds were approached. This was the first EFIS display used by the test pilot that gave such a dominant warning. The warning was assessed as a most useful safety benefit."
